Come and join us for some fun workshops in a range of STEM disciplines. We hope the sessions will spark your student's interest in these subjects and kick off an amazing journey of learning, critical thinking, problem solving and creativity.

About the Event
Our community STEM Expo is back as part of National Science Week and we invite you to come along as we celebrate all things STEM. General entry is free. Workshops range from $15-25 and we recommend early registration as places are limited. Parents and carers are welcome (and encouraged!) to participate alongside their children to learn with them (there is no additional cost for an accompanying adult). Digital Creators - 10am
10am to 11.15am. Ages: Grades 3-6. Presented by BOP Industries. The future is changing rapidly and the way we live, work, and play is evolving and developing on a daily basis. Participants will get hands-on with a range of new and emerging technologies such as holograms, augmented reality, 3D printing and more. They will use their problem-solving skills to develop a series of out of the box solutions to some real-world challenges.

10am to 11am. Suitable for all ages. Presented by Ocean Life Education. In this interactive program students discover amazing facts about these extraordinary ocean animals. Learn why sharks attack humans and how different sharks have different teeth. Have you ever considered how sharks are born? Touch live marine creatures and cool artefacts like shark jaws. Learn the importance of sharks and safe swimming practices.

Robo Bricks is an amazing new building and coding robot and introduces primary school children to the exciting world of robotics. Children learn to ‘think like engineers’ by building motorised robot ‘models’ using LEGO®, motors and batteries.

The City of the Future program will see students working on challenges on how we can use innovations from around the world to design our connected cities of the future. From toothbrushes that can track what teeth you’ve brushed, fridges that can automatically order you milk as soon as you run out and even robots that can keep pets and children entertained.

11.30am - 12.30pm. Suitable for all ages. Weird and Wonderful Creatures of the Sea. Presented by Ocean Life Education. Discover amazing facts about extraordinary sea creatures. This interactive program will intrigue students while teaching the important message of caring for our environment. Get up close and touch live marine creatures and explore artefacts and games. Students will be surprised at the diversity of bizarre looking creatures in the ocean.

11.30am to 12.30pm. Ages: Grades 3-6. Presented by Big Bang Education. We dive into the kitchen to see what science lies within the foods we love to eat. Young scientists will make sciencey treats they can eat, and we make some liquid nitrogen ice cream for everyone. Warning: This program is delicious!

11.30am - 1pm. All ages. Presented by It's Rocket Science. Be a rocket scientist and explore the properties and movement of flying objects. Students will make a simple bottle rocket, then use their senses to compare the push and pull forces used to move flying objects to see what flies higher, faster or further. Watch their excitement take off as their rocket is launched 60 metres into the air!

1pm to 1.45pm. Presented by EG Incursion. Someone has broken into the school safe and stolen the cake sale money! Our young investigators must tape off the area in order to protect any evidence. Clues and evidence must be identified, collected, interpreted and analysed. These include fingerprints, impressions, hairs and fibres and 'blood', bones and DNA. Can you solve the mystery?

1pm - 2pm. Suitable for all ages. Presented by Bulimba Creek Catchment. Come and explore worms and create a worm farm! Workshop facilitator Gary, from Bulimba Creek Catchment, will share some fun worm facts. We'll then get hands-on by making a worm farm together. Then each child will make their own worm farm (out of a soft drink bottle) to take home! There will also be other worm-related creative activities to enjoy.
